Improvements for engine cooling.
- cooling01
many Atom owners report difficulties unscrewing the stock brass radiator plug that's in the top of the radiator - cooling02
a Moroso bleed valve was installed in the top of the radiator - cooling03
a Lingenfelter 160 degree thermostat was installed to make things run cooler - stock Atom heater core bypass
with no heater, the factory's 'bypass' loop is a rubber hose within an inch of the header - bad for reliability - internal passage 1
a passage was drilled internally in the thermostat lower housing so the coolant wouldn't have to flow through the external loop - internal passage 2
another view of the new internal passage - plug 1
an aluminum plug was welded into one of the ports where the external loop was - plug 2
another view of the newly-welded plug - completed housing
here's a view of the finished product - now with an internal passage and the external ports welded closed - housing installed
back on the engine and a worthwhile reliability improvement, special thanks to Furo Racecraft in central Wisconsin for machining and fab
